Before you start

  • A Search Console property selected in Connections. Analytics is needed for visitor numbers, sources and devices.
  • A website address saved for the business, so the health check, speed test and page scan know what to check.

Set it up, step by step

  1. Choose the business at the top of the menu, open Overview and pick 7, 28 or 90 complete days.
  2. Read the top row first: the Website health gauge (our home-page check out of 100) and the four number tiles for Google clicks, times shown in search, website visitors and enquiries. Each tile compares with the previous period of the same length.
  3. Read the Google speed score meter. It is Google’s own PageSpeed test of your home page; switch between Phone and Computer. The first test each day takes about 20–40 seconds while the needle waits.
  4. Scroll to Page scan: what’s missing. It checks up to 20 pages from your sitemap for titles, Google descriptions, main headings, picture descriptions, business details for Google and more. Choose Show each page to see what to fix on which page.
  5. Use the Over time chart (Clicks, Times shown or Visitors), the source and device donuts, Top searches and Where you rank to see what is working.
  6. Open Your next steps, pick one suggestion that fits the business and choose Add to SEO workboard to keep track of it.

Open Overview →

In the dashboard menu: Your website → Overview.

How to use it

Check one consistent period each week and compare it with the period before. Note seasonality, promotions or website changes.

Use the refresh buttons on the health, speed and page-scan cards to check again after you fix something. Results are kept for a day so the page loads quickly.

Example reports are labelled and are not your business results.

What the results mean

Clicks come from Google Search; times shown (impressions) count how often you appeared; visitors come from Google Analytics and measure activity on the website. They are different units and won’t match.

Speed scores of 90+ are green, 50–89 amber and under 50 red, the same bands Google uses. Scores move a little between tests. “Main content shows” is the most important timing on phones.

The page scan reads each page’s HTML; it does not run JavaScript, so a builder that adds titles with JavaScript can show as missing. Pages Google has indexed comes from Google’s stored data for your sitemap.

Google search data ends three days ago. A dash or “Not set up” means missing data or setup, not zero.

If something goes wrong

The speed score says Google is busy

Google limits how many tests run at once. Wait a few minutes and use the refresh button on the speed card.

The page scan shows a page as missing a title I can see

Some website builders add titles and descriptions with JavaScript after the page loads. Google usually reads those, but our quick HTML check can’t. Check the page in Page inspections or On-page SEO.

I visited today but cannot see it here

Google search data is finalised about three days later, and Analytics can take a day. Choose a complete period.

The totals look wrong

Check the right business and properties are selected in Connections, and compare like-for-like periods.
