Why weekly
Small problems are cheap to fix when caught early: a contact form that quietly stopped sending, a page that dropped out of Google, a phone number typo after an update. Once a week is often enough to catch them without it becoming a chore.
The 10-minute check
Do these in order, and write down anything that looks different from last week.
- Send yourself a test through the contact form (or check you received at least one real enquiry this week). Forms break more often than people think.
- Tap your phone number on your phone and make sure it dials the right number.
- In Google Search Console, compare clicks and impressions with the previous week. A sudden big drop is worth investigating; small ups and downs are normal.
- Check the Pages report for any important page that has become “not indexed”.
- In Google Analytics, check how many enquiries were recorded and where they came from (once enquiry tracking is set up).
- Look at your Google Business Profile for new reviews or questions, and reply.
Don’t panic over small numbers
With small numbers, percentages swing wildly: going from 2 clicks to 4 is “up 100%”. Look at trends over a month or more before changing anything big. Google’s data is also delayed by a couple of days.
